Looking for the best portable external hard drive to store your photo and video files? Look no further than the Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt 2TB External Hard Drive.

This Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt review covers design, performance and price. So let’s dig in!

Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt 2TB Review

The Lacie Thunderbolt hard drive is a solid workhorse with fast read/write speeds (510 Mb/s with SSD like my Macbook Pro) and an integrated Thunderbolt cable. I bought this about 4 years ago to store photo and video files I take as a landscape photographer. And it’s still ticking along just fine!

Here’s what I love about this portable external hard drive.

1. Integrated Thunderbolt cable

The Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt comes with a Thunderbolt cable that hides away inside a groove that’s built into the edge of the hard drive. This is perfect for me, because I don’t have to remember to bring the cable with me. It’s always there!

2. Works with Mac or PC

The Rugged Thunderbolt comes with a USB-C cable. This means you can connect it to a PC or a Mac that doesn’t have Thunderbolt input.

3. Quick startup and fast read/write speeds

I use the Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt 2TB mostly to work in Adobe Lightroom CC, Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro (FCPX) with no lag. It’s a great portable storage solution for landscape photographers to keep and backup all their photos and files.

4. Very quiet!

I’m not sure if it’s the rubber shell surrounding the hard drive, but this thing is unbelievably quiet. So much so, that when I eject it from my Mac prior to disconnecting the cable, I have to put my hand on it to feel whether the disk has stopped spinning or not!

5. Rugged rubber shell

Speaking of the rubber shell, that’s what really gives me enough confidence to drop it in my camera bag and travel with it. Whether I’m headed to a local park or the to the beach for a sunrise photo shoot, I know it won’t get damaged during transit.

6. Made for clumsy people like me

If you’re like me, you’ve dropped many electronic items (usually expensive). But no worries here for the most part. The Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt 2TB Hard Drive is drop resistant ( up to5 ft.), crush resistant ( up to 1 ton), and water resistant…though I’m not planning to test this! 🙂

7. Competitive Price

The price for what you’re getting is pretty competitive. Especially for a Thunderbolt connected device that allows for faster data transfer.
